VIOLIN

THE PURPOSE OF THE VIOLIN AND VIOLA COURSES AT MUSIC HOUSE, IT THAT OF ENHANCING THE ARTISTIC AND AESTHETIC EDUCATION OF THE STUDENT, WITH THE INTENT OF DEVELOPING PROFESSIONAL SKILLS SUCH AS THE MASTERY OF THE INSTRUMENT,  ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE INTERACTION AND OVERALL EXPANSION OF WORLDVIEW.

THROUGHOUT THE COURSE, THE STUDENT WILL FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES:

  • Mastering the art of playing the Violin/Viola as solo and as an interactive activity in a music ensemble.
  • Artistic and Aesthetic education
  • Development of imaginative thinking
  • Development of professional abilities
  • Development of artistic abilities.

PROGRAM CONTENT

  • Understanding the history of music in relation to the instrument. Particular focus on the important characters involved in the development of music and the instrument.
  • Demonstration of technical skills from the instructor
  • Development of sight-reading, or the ability to read written music, in order to acquire and develop an internal hearing
  • An acquaintance of musical terminology
  • Ensemble skills under the guidance of a Musical Director or ConcertMaster
  • In-depth study of technical mastery of the instrument, with a focus on intonation, smooth transitions, the appropriate type of strokes for varied musical works, correct bow use, rhythmic accuracy and coordination of the right and left hands.
  • Regular practice over scales and arpeggios through etudes and exercises.
  • Technique, rhythmic accuracy
  • High-quality sound production
  • A study on the nature of vibration in relation to performance intention.

MODALITY OF STUDY

  • The curriculum provides two main modalities of action: Ensemble Classes and Individual Private Classes.
  • Study plan and homework study of class material
  • The best way to inspire the student, and keeping his/her attention and focus, is through a combination of instrument demonstration and related verbal explanation.

MUSIC HOUSE CLASSES ARE DIVIDED INTO BLOCKS OF 12 SESSIONS.

THE COURSE WILL PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING OUTCOMES OVER THE SPAN OF A YEAR-LONG ATTENDANCE:

  • Assimilation of the names of the Violin/Viola parts and bows.
  • Hands positions (Learning the first position)
  • Written music
  • Development of ear sensitivity to musical recognition
  • Sound quality, intonation
  • Scales and Arpeggios in basic key signatures
  • Simple dynamics, strokes, and fingering mapping.
  • Transitioning from string to string, a smooth connection of bow movements.
  • Development of a repertoire of musical pieces and songs.
